Earlier this week, CRIPES members Rhidian, Willow and Mike, as well as fellow postgraduate Josie Jackson led the Organisms & Environment (O&E) Away Day, which was held at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff.
A series of Cripes members were also in attendance, giving talks or posters, and congratulations go to Emily Mathews, Rhi Hunt and Mike Reynolds, who all won prizes for the Best Poster, Best MRes talk and Best 2nd Year PhD talk respectively (full sweep on prizes from CRIPES!).
The day was a great success, with some fantastic talks by a range of speakers including the plenary speaker Prof. John Morgan, who gave a great account of his career highlights and influential characters he’d met along the way.
Following John’s highly engaging talk, a postgraduate careers session, chaired by Dr. Hefin Jones, was a chance to hear from former PhD students from the division, Dr Claire Raisin (Size of Wales), Dr Jon Wood (Innvoate UK) and Dr Paul Sinnadurai (Brecon Beacons National Park Authority). The guest speakers all gave a fantastic insight into their career progression, and a panel discussion session allowed some questions from an audience of undergraduates and postgraduates alike.
After an interesting and thought provoking day, a drinks reception was a chance to unwind and do some networking, and followed by a well-deserved pizza at Zero Degrees. Thanks all for a great day!
