Emily Matthews joins CRIPES!

Emily Matthews has joined the CRIPES group as a PhD student this month working on a project entitled, “Early detection and molecular epidemiology of Saprolegnia infections in wild and farmed fishes” under the supervision of Dr Amy Ellison, Prof Jo Cable (Cardiff) and Dr Chris Williams (Environment Agency). This project is funded by KESS, a major European Convergence programme which supports collaborative research projects with external partners based in the convergence area of Wales.

The project is partnered with the local aquaculture R&D company; Pontus Research, where Emily will gain hands-on experience in commercial aquaculture research. Emily’s PhD is sponsored by the Environment Agency, who she will be working with closely throughout the project to monitor and characterize pathogenic strains of Saprolegnia parasitica in wild fish stocks around the UK.
