“Serendipity and curiosity!”
What is your proudest work-related moment to date?
“When my first graduate student completed her PhD.”
What’s the worst job you have ever had?
“Waiting tables in the college dorm.”
If you had left academia in a parallel universe, what job would you be doing instead?
“I would be a farmer of vegetables (not sheep).”
Where is the best place you have ever travelled for work?
“St. Kilda by far. It is so amazingly remote and stunning – it’s awesome.”
What’s your favourite parasite?
“Schistosomes, even though the sheep don’t have them. But I always say you love your first parasite the best!”
If you had to be infected with a parasite what would you pick?
What would be your specialist subject on Mastermind be?
“Star Trek.” (Andrea then shows us her Star Trek tattoo)
What’s your favourite type of cheese?
“Definitely a cheese made of sheep’s milk. Brebis.”
If your office/lab caught on fire, what would be the thing that you saved?
“The pickled acanthocephalan that I have had for about 20 years, because it’s so cool. It came from a fish that I caught and dissected, and it had this beautiful acanthocephalan in.”
